This is the foot of Angie Grams contemplating the intriguing "Sunburst" scultpure in front of the Milwaukee Art Museum.

We don't have a lot of details on this beautiful footograph from Josh Nagelberg. Best guess is someplace in the Appalachians. Very nice!

This footograph is from the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Ft. A. P. Hill in Virginia. There were 45,000 Scouts and Leaders there from July 27 - August 4. That means roughly 90,000 feet were there! This one belongs to Dave Smith.

At Millenium Park in Chicago, Angie Grams and her left foot pose for this footograph in front of the Anish Kapoor sculpture.

The State of Michigan , in order to cut down substantially on maintenance costs, has decided to replace the two steel and concrete towers of the Mackinac Bridge with a pair of size 14 penny loafers, as seen in this picture. Money previously devoted to paint will now be spent on shoe wax and an occasional resoleing . Thanks to Jim Ollson of Cheboygan, Michigan for the great footograph - and sense of humor!

Alan Shoemaker pauses while hiking near Lake Meade, Nevada to snap this footograph.

The day before his wedding, Jason Smith took his family on a tour of the autumn leaves in New England. This footograph was taken from a rickety old observation tower someplace in Northwest Massachusetts. He told the bride-to-be his family had kidnapped him and they were taking him to Canada. Just a bad little joke.

While on the family journey through New England, Tim Smith showed of his snazzy shoe in this autumn footograph.

At Soldier Field in Chicago, the crowd was gathering for the U2 concert when Kim Smith snapped this great footograph showing the amazing stage set-up for the show. The highest point of the stage was as high as the highest point in the stadium!

They say it's one of the best places in the world to view a sunset. This footo goes a long way toward proving that statement true! That's Adam Herrera, Teri Castillo, Thomas Herrera and Samantha Herrera enjoying the evening near Hermit's Rest (an oold structure built in 1914 at the end of Hermit Road) in Grand Canyon Village.

These feet are 10,188 feet above sea level and had just hiked two miles to Powell Point in Utah's Bryce Canyon National Park. Going to be time for re-treads on those shoes pretty soon! Great footo of Thomas Herrera, Adam Herrera, Teri Castillo and Samantha Herrera..

At the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Mather Point provides a beautiful backdrop for this footograph. Fet shown are those of Samantha Herrera, Teri Castillo, Adam Herrera, and Thomas Herrera..

Stacey Bryant and Steve Myers perch atop a large rock up on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park outside Estes Park, CO . The two decided to rest their feet and appreciate the sunset over the Rockies after hiking all day.

The very first Killer Bee spotted in the United States was found in Hidalgo, Texas. While the government has done a nice job playing down the danger of the Africanized Honey Bee (official name), this footograph was smuggled out of Hidalgo to show the world the danger of the giant bee! Tim Smith risked life and limb (or at least foot and toes) to get this Feetinfamousplaces exclusive footograph of the dangerous beast.

Giant windmills are becoming a bigger part of the American landscape every day! This footograph was taken at the ribbon cutting of the Gulf Wind Farm in Sarita, Texas. The feet belong to Jerry Durham and Serena Rosenkrantz of the International Museum of Art and Science in McAllen who attended the ribbon cutting at the invitation of Babcock & Brown - the company responsible for building the windfarm. These giant windmills have built in bird-detection radar which will stop the blades from turning when a flock of birds approaches. With 118 windmills, this farm will produce enough energy to power 80,000 per year. Wow!

Karen Vega, wearing socks given to her by her mother Kathleen Carrizal-Frye for Halloween, got her feet way too close to the Italian Herbed Turkey being prepared by her brother Kyle Frye. Karen survived the close call with the turkey (and it's chef) and grabbed this footograph of a piece of Americana for us.

It's world famous! The tree growing out of the courthouse tower in Greensburg, Indiana is a landmark in this Southeastern Indiana town. My dad always said the tree got its water from the springs in the tower clock. Pat Smith got lots of funny looks when she took this footograph on the town square in Greensburg. By the way, you can read Pat's columns in the Greensburg Daily News. She has even written about this website.

Standing 5 feet 9 inches, Alan Shoemaker and his foot are dwarfed by the 1450 foot Sears Tower in Chicago. The Sears Tower is the tallest building in North America and the third tallest building in the world - and now it is even more famous because it's featured on www.feetinfamousplaces.com!

In front of Chicago's fabulous Field Museum, Alan Shoemaker grabs a quick footograph.

Pam Schuler creates music by stepping on one of nine chimes-tiles at a hidden interactive art piece in Battery Park in Lower Manhattan - New York City.

At the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Pam Schuler says this exhibit "screamed" footograph as people passing by were separated from their own feet - making it impossible to get a shot of your own foot.

While it's not our first footograph from the Appalachian Trail, this is certainly an extra-special one. This is Brandon Smith's foot at Clingman's Dome, the highest point on the Appalachian Trail.

We can't quite tell if Jason Smith is the soldier or the little dog, but we do know he had a chance to walk the world's largest Monopoly board in San Jose, California. As you can see by the following footos, Jason may have started on "Go," but during his trek around the board, he had to go "directly to jail...do not pass go...do not collect $200." Fortunately, he eventually got out of jail but then landed on Boardwalk where the hotel owner promptly bankrupted him. He never got back to "Go." Great footos!

With its 433 inch mirror, the Hobby Eberly Telescope at the McDonald Observatory is one of the largest in the world. This footograph was taken by Tim Smith during a behind the scenes tour of the huge Hobby-Eberly. Just to the right of Tim's foot you can make out the actual mirrors which are pointing upward for a view of the sky.

At the entrance to the Frank N. Bash visitors center at the McDonald Observatory near Ft. Davis, Texas, you'll find large stones of the same diameter as the three large telescopes there. Here, Tim Smith gets a footograph near the stone representing the 82" Otto Struve Telescope. The larger circle is the 82 incher! McDonald is also home to the 107" Harlan J. Smith Telescope and the 11 Meter Hobby-Eberly Telescope.

From Liberty Island in New York Harbor, Veronica and Christopher Debruhl take this great footograph of the New York City Skyline. Of course, the Statue of Liberty (formally known as The Lady of Exiles) is the lone "resident" of Liberty Island.

Built in 1930 and 1931, the Empire State Building in New York City was once the tallest building in the world with 102 floors. Today, the building towers over Felipe "Christopher" DeBruhl's foot as he and family tour the Big Apple.

In front of the famous Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, Veronica DeBruhl snaps this great footograph.

Hiking through Canyonlands National Park in Utah, Laura Kottlowski of Boulder, Colorado gives her foot a rest long enough to take this great footograph. It's a long walk for a "cherry wheat" from out there!

That's downtown Atlanta, Georgia in the background of this footograph taken from high atop Stone Mountain by Jenn Gunter.

Looking down from the street above, Sarai Valdez and her foot see folks strolling along the famed San Antonio Riverwalk.

While walking the streets of San Antonio, Sarai Valdez snapped this beautiful footograph of the San Antonio River meandering beneath the city. It's the famous Riverwalk.

Yep, that's an upside down car in this footograph. Or, maybe the foot's upside down. Hmmm. Either way - this great footograph was taken in the Hard Rock Cafe in San Antonio, Texas by Sarai Valdez. Very nice!

Travelling all the way from Weslaco, Texas, Cassie Alaniz grabbed this footograph from the balcony of her room at the landmark Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.

This footograph could have gone in the TV/Movie Feet category, but the Griffith Park Observatory is such a part of Americana we had to put it here. This is Jason Smith's foot with the newly remodeled observatory . You may recognize the place from such famous movies as " Rebel Without a Cause ," " The Rocketeer " and " The Terminator ."
At the Griffith Park Observatory, Jason Smith is standing atop a sidewalk model demonstrating the distance
from the sun to all the planets. As you can see, the distance from his left foot on the Sun to his right foot on planet Mercury is
approximately 43.4 Million Miles.

Heather Straight strips down to her stocking feet to grab this great footo in front of the "world famous" giant peach water tower in Gaffney, South Carolina. The tower, built in 1981 is a monument to the fact that South Carolina produces more peaches than neighboring Georgia. I'll bet you didn't know that!

Frank Strait also wanted to get his foot in the door with a footograph from Gaffney, South Carolina which he says is about 25 miles Northeast of Spartanburg and 50 Miles Southwest of Charlotte right next to I-85. You can't miss it and it's worth the stop!

Big Bend Ranch State Park, in the Trans Pecos, Big Bend region of Texas , is the largest state park in Texas at around 300,000 acres. It is a geologic wonderland, featuring the remnants of ancient mountains composed of sedimentary rocks up to 530 million years old, to volcanic mountains around 30 millions years old. This footo features lava at the feet of Richard Hagan (who is less than a million years old), tuff based rocks in the mid range, and volcanic mountains in the background.

Life requires, and looks for water, in the desert. It is found here in small springs, with desert mountains in the background. Who needs a water stick when you have Richard Hagan's foot?

More springs in the desert. Not quite enough water here to qualify Richard Hagan's footograph as "wet feet."

Water brings people and their feet. Here is a hole in the rock for grinding grain, convenient to the springs at Big Bend Ranch State Park.

In the West Texas mountains, this footograph is taken at a Grain grinding well, with tuffaceous hills and volcanic mountains. Thanks to Richard Hagan for all the great mountain climbing footos!

There are many ancient Indian grain grinding wells in Big Bend Ranch State Park in West Texas. Footographer Richard Hagan wonders out loud how many years - or generations - it took people to grind out all of the wells.
Numerous grinding wells in rock under overhanging ledge. This was also a cooking site, as evidenced by black soot on overhanging rock.

Looking from California across Lake Tahoe into Nevada, Alan Shoemaker pauses from his hike to grab this beautiful footograph for us.

While at the National Weather Association's annual convention in Reno, Nevada, meteorologist Alan Shoemaker managed to sneak away from the meetings just long enough to grab this footograph of the Reno skyline. Alan says "rumors that there are casinos in those big buildings are greatly exaggerated...I only saw meeting rooms."

At the Northernmost point of the Mississippi River, Dave Smith keeps his foot dry for this footograph. This spot is about 2 miles East of Bemidji, Minnesota.

While travelling through Colorado, Stacey Bryant and her feet get a little R&R along the Cache Le Poudre river. The river's name means"Hiding Place of Powder." According to legend, French fur trappers in the 1820's were caught by a tremendous snowstorm. To lighten their load, they buried large amounts of gunpowder ( poudre ) in a hiding place ( cache ) along the banks of the river.
But forget the french lessons. The wild west way to pronounce Cache la Poudre is "cash luh pew-der." The "cash" part is appropriate: the river corridor is rich in paddling, hiking, and scenic driving opportunities.
The Cache La Poudre River begins high in the peaks of Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park along the Continental Divide. Flowing north and east through Roosevelt National Forest , it tumbles down the slopes of the Front Range and meanders through the city of Fort Collins. From its headwaters to the confluence with the South Platte River east of Greeley, the Cache La Poudre drops 7,000 feet. It's Colorado's first National Wild and Scenic River . Highway 14 , which follows much of the river, is a scenic byway between the towns of Fort Collins and Walden.

Hiking up sand dunes at Great Sand Dunes National Park, Stacey Bryant and David Patino grab this picturesque footo. Great Sand Dunes is a 30 square mile dunefield. Stacey and David hiked up to High Dune, a 1.5 mile hike up a 650 foot elevation gain. At the top, a raging sandstorm was blowing, throwing sand in their faces, ears, eyes etc. Thank goodness their feet survived to enjoy the beautiful 360 degree view!

Stacey Bryant and David Patino hang on to their zapatos (shoes) at Zapata Falls. Zapata Falls flows into a narrow chasm south of Great Sand Dunes National Park near Alamosa, Colorado. To view the falls, it is necessary to hike about 1/2 mile - cross the creek - then scramble up the rocks and stream - into a cavern . . . where the 30 foot high falls cascade onto a ledge. "The rocks can be quite slippery" says Stacey. All for a footograph. Cool!

Crystal Kief-Ramirez took time out from a busy day at Walt Disney's Epcot Center to snap this footograph of her daughter Taylor Ann.

This one of the swimming pools at Hearst Castle, the former 300- square-mile estate of Publishing Magnate William Randolph Hearst. The pool was said to contain 15,000 cubic feet of water. Jason Smith says he could only spare one foot for the footograph.

Here's Martha Burrows' foot at a VALLEJO show (band from Austin, TX ) playing in Harlingen, TX . at Philosopher Dave's bar, it was a unique acoustic show...like watching our favorite band in our living room...seating was limited only 60 tickets were sold @ $50 a pop and it sold out. Until we add a musical feet section, Americana Feet seems to be the place for this musical footograph submitted by Alex Burrows.

It was the coldest Easter Sunday in memory. Nora and Taylor Smith lift their double-socked feet in front of the distant skyline of Austin, Texas.

On the strip in Las Vegas, Alan Shoemaker raises his foot for this footograph. While he may have lost his shirt on his trip, it looks like he managed to hang on to his shoes (at least one of them).

While visiting the Luray Caverns in western VA , Pam Shuler took the opportunity to use what the guide described as a perfect picture frame for this footo. The Caverns are gorgeous. If you have the chance to see them, you won't regret taking the time .

Along with Jason's foot, this footograph includes the famous foot of Steve Scaia - the star of STEVE SAVES LA. MAP

Washington DCs Union Station continues to be a gathering spot for folks in the Nation's Capital. The ornate ceilings, walls, and archways make a magnificent setting for the old train station. Much of the station has been converted into a shopping and dining experience. It makes for an interesting mix of travelers carrying their luggage headed for a cross country train trip, shoppers looking for bargains at one of the shops, and teenagers hanging out at the mall like they do in every city. That's Tim Smith's tired foot in the footograph. MAP

In the Davis Mountains of West Texas - 7 miles NNW of Alpine, Richard Hagan takes this footograph looking toward the South. The mountains are composed of magma that up-welled in fissures surrounding a volcano caldera located some 4 miles South (extinct - we hope). Flowers are for attracting hummingbirds. Ten or more different species are often seen in a season in the area. MAP

Taken from the same location as the last footo, this time looking toward the West...the mountain left of center in the background is Crenshaw Mountain, just under 6000 feet. The extruded magma on the mountain background right is called "Palisades" because it reminded some geologist of the Palisades formation in New YOur State. These are common formations in the Davis Mountains. Geologists the world over are attracted to the Trans-Pecos (acorss or west of the Pecos River) region of Texas, which includes Alpine, for the wealth of geological formations, including the world's largest exposed fossil reef. MAP

Richard Hagan took this footograph looking toward the Southeast from his perch 7 miles North-Northwest of Alpine Texas. The valley in front of the mounain is called Sunny Glen. The footo was taken from an elevation of 4920 feet. MAP

In the Hill Country of Texas, Valerie Bates stretches the definition of footograph a bit by actually removing her boot to place it on the fence at Boot Hill. As she says, it logically follows that her foot is "near the scene." Works for me!
Professional Footographer Valerie Bates also managed to find the official entrance to Boot Hill. It's a footo worth posting!

Somewhere in South Texas, FM (Farm to Market Road) 666 meanders through a lot of nothing. Valerie Bates says "for miles, the only vehicle we see is the postman, delivering mail on FM 666. The road has no center stripe, is quite curvy in comparison to other farm roads in the area......My friend Boo Boo rode with me....Seems an appropriate name to hit FM 666 with..."
If one drives long enough on FM 666, the road will eventually meet another desolate highway. In this case, FM 666 meets FM 665. That's the boot of Valerie Bates in this footograph.

While taking a pleasant ride along one of quiet freeways of Los Angeles, Maria slides her foot in front of the LA skyline for this footograph.

On the deck of the Queen Mary, the famous cruise-ship-turned-hotel, Jason Smith raises his foot in salute of the ship now docked in Southern California.
On board the Queen Mary, this footograph is taken in the engine room. In addition to Jason Smith's foot, you're looking at the Aft Turbine.
Pam Schuler sends us this footograph from BurningMan (fortunately, not BurningFoot!). BurningMan is an annual gathering in the Nevada desert. For each participant in this self-expressive, self-reliant event of 35,000 people, the experience is unique. Each year, Black Rock City is transformed by large art projects, interactive theme camps and a wide variety of individuals who come to participate in this "Leave No Trace" expression of human creativity.
Garrett Smith braves the thin air on the highest paved road in North America to take this footograph high atop Mt. Evans. At more than 14,000 feet, getting into this position can take all the air one has! Thank goodness for cruise control.
On US 50 leading out of Ocean City, Maryland, this road sign indicates it is a short 3073 miles to the other end of the highway. Frank Strait risks life and foot to get this footograph alongside the busy roadway. According to Frank, there may be a similar sign in Sacramento, California. That "Ocean City 3073" sign is now on our "most wanted footographs" list!
No, Martha and Thomas Jefferson did not wear flip-flops. Or maybe they did, but we don't have a picture of that. Instead, we have a footograph in front of Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. The feet (and flip-flops) are those of Brandon and Kim Smith.
On a small (very small) section of the Appalachian Trail, the feet of Brandon and Kim Smith are shown in this footograph, taken in the Shenendoah National Park in Virginia. Brandon and Kim changed from their flip-flops into their "hiking" shoes so we would all think they actually hiked the trail!
At the biggest fishing tournament in the state of Texas, The Texas International Fishing Tournament in Port Isabel, Israel Alfaro, Jr displays his "chancla" on the dock while waiting for the big catch to come in. MAP
Also at TIFT, Rick Ramirez and Tim Smith pose for this footograph following a busy day of broadcasting from the dock. You can tell by the shoes who came to work - and who came to enjoy the view. MAP
Maya Robinson poses for this footograph in front of Wyland Whaling Wall #53, painted on the South Padre Island, Texas Convention Center. Actually, the mural titled "Orcas Off The Gulf Of Mexico" takes up two full walls of the Convention Center. World-renowned artist Wyland painted the Whaling Wall in one week. After the first day of painting, a rainstorm washed much of the paint away, forcing him to start over. He still managed to complete the work in five days. MAP
On sunny South Padre Island, Texas, Tim Smith takes a break from his morning jog on the beach (ok, so it was not exactly a jog...wrong shoes!) to pose for this footograph in the early morning sun. MAP
On a slightly more crowded beach, Frank Strait and his belly pose for this footograph in Ocean City, Maryland. What a life, eh?
Bemidji, Minnesota is the home of legendary woodsman Paul Bunyan. Paul still lives in the heart of Bemidji in the form of a giant statue in the town center. Paul shares this footograph with Bemidji residents Dave and Kim Smith.
Everyone who knows the legend of Paul Bunyan also knows of Babe, his large blue ox. Here, Dave and Kim Smith pose for a footograph with Babe.
This came very close to qualifying for a "wet footograph" but firm footing was found and instead we have an Americana footograph of Dave Smith in Duluth, Minnesota where the summer temperature was a balmy 72 degrees. We hope to see a winter version of this footograph!
"West to Hawaii" were the words of Gracie Espinoza, Gloria Perez, Mary Vento, Julie Martinez and Eva Guardiola as the five sisters from Texas headed across the Pacific to celebrate the big (unspecified) birthday of one of the sisters (rumor has it the birthday girls initials are GAP and the birthday number was, well, nifty).
