Cold Feet!

At Snowmass in Aspen, Colorado, David Oakes, Stacey Bryant and Steve Myers head to the top for another great run.

"17 years later, during a New Years Ski Trip in Taos, the boots of Stacey Bryant and Steve Myers reunite on Lift 7A," says Steve of this cold footograph. Now we're all curious what happened 17 years ago!

At the first power dam along the Mississippi river - someplace in Northern Minnesota, Dave Smith gets his snowy boot into this very cold footograph. Brrrrrr!!!

On New Years Day, 2008, Stacey Bryant and friends braved the bitter cold of the Colorado slopes to get this footograph. The temperature in the morning was a pleasant zero (0) degrees Fahrenheit and it only warmed to 11 with a wind chill in the minus-teens.

During the New Years ski trip to Colorado, Stacey Bryant paused from the fun long enough to get this footo at Keystone with the Continental Divide in the background. Ski boots in famous places could be a website all its own!
Not sure if this is Breckenridge or Vail, but those are definitely Stacey Bryant's skis in this footograph from the now famous New Years ski trip.

At the base of Mt. McKinley in Alaska, Laura Albertson grabs this footograph in "beautiful downtown Takeetna." Snowshoeing, Nordic Skiing and mushing are the popular sports in Takeetna - all of which probably require different shoes than those seen here. Doesn't look too cold in this footo, nonetheless it is Alaska - so the footograph belongs in "Cold Feet!"

Just before the first snowstorm of the season blew in (hence qualifying this as a cold foot) Alan Shoemaker made the trek to the Mt. Rose Summit just outside of Lake Tahoe. A day later and he'd have need his snow boots!
Awesome angle looking down at the skis of Stacey Bryant and Jenny Holm as they ride the chair lift to the top of the slopes at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The snow-covered resort is nestled in the Tetons. This is our first ski bootograph!
Taken in front of the antler arches in Jackson Hole Town Square . Stacey Bryant's feet. Click on the footograph for a larger version where you can read the plaque. There are four antler arches, one at each entrance to the town square...made of elk antlers from the elk refuges in town.
Even Los Angeles is feeling the Global Warming of 2007! Setting foot onto the first ice LA has seen in decades, Jason Smith offers this footograph of the rare Southern California Frigid Weather.
Sometimes the "accidental footographs" are the best. That's Alex Garcia's foot on the right side of the footo - right below his Camera lens. Alex and Tim Smith were both taking pictures of the frozen flamingo in Alex's back yard during the great ice storm of 2007. The ice was about 1/2" thick on everything.

This may not look "cold" to most people, but the absence of people in the background along the San Antonio Riverwalk tells the story. Alex Garcia and Tim Smith were among the more than 2500 meteorologists in the Alamo City for the American Meteorological Society convention when they took a cold stroll on the famed Riverwalk. With temperatures near 30 degrees and light rain falling the normally congested sidewalks and restaurants were bare, most restaurants were in fact closed.

Bending the rules a bit, we add this footprint footograph from Jason Smith in Minnesota. This is what happens when somebody steps on fresh snow, compacting it into a more solid footprint. When the sun melts the rest of the snow, the compacted footprint melts much slower than the rest. Sometimes it even stays behind after the rest of the snow is gone. In this footo, the melted snow re-froze leaving a white footprint in clear ice.

Duluth, Minnesota
This is the frozen St. Louis Bay in Lake Superior in Duluth. Dave Smith's foot isn't just cold - it could be moved to a new "Frozen Feet" category!
